October 1st, 2015

Today Juan Antonio has suggested us some words to do phonetic transcriptions. Then, our professor has shown us some strategies to teach the rhythm to children: saying one, two, three,… syllables, then, one, two, three,… words, and finally complete sentences, texts; always with rhythm, clapping  or knocking the table while speaking, and taking into account that in English we talk louder the main words. For this reason, it´s important to highlight the main words to children, for example: writing the words bigger or drawing smaller and bigger circles near the syllables. Moreover, Juan Antonio introduced us a web page called “British Council”, in which we could watch different videos related to learning rhythm and intonation by singing songs about stories, like colors or adopting an animal. Finally, our professor delivered some sheets about different situations between a customer and an assistant, and in pairs, we had to produce a conversation as if we are customers or assistants.

In addition, I guess it was one the cutest classes since we started our classes with Juan Antonio. Maybe it is because we did dynamic activities and we had to be active and concentrated while creating our conversation. Anyway, I finished the class thinking about how fast the class ended.

Summarizing, I have had the opportunity to discover an interesting web page called “British council”, and I have learnt a lot about phonetic, rhythm and intonation. And, of course, I´ve acquired and reminded vocabulary and expressions like:  climb/slide, swallow, hop/skip, shelter, fetch, and “hip, hip, hurray”.
